You will not attain perfection.
Our society is amazing, isn’t it? We take the people who look pretty and put them on these perfect pedestals and envy them and ask their advice and want to learn all about them, when we don’t even fucking know how their lives really are. Just because they’re attractive, we make them the life experts.
And we forget that each of these famous people has at least, AT LEAST one publicist whose job is to make sure 24/7 that their pretty client is spun in the best words, shot in the best light, asked the best questions, and given the best opportunities.
Do you have a publicist? Is there someone making sure you get invited to this party and then getting you the perfect outfit for said party, and then making sure someone with a camera catches your best side during said party?
No. You fucking don’t.
But Elle, you say, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to do my best, with wanting to achieve the highest goals, with wanting to attain perfection!
I thought that too for a while. Until I realized that it turned me into an ugly human being, uncapable of happiness, nasty to my family. When my mood and happiness swung by how i felt about my body that day, I knew that I had a problem.
So let me tell you now.
You will not attain that perfection. No matter how much weight you lose, there will always be more to go, because your body image is a distorted one. What you see in the mirror is not what everyone else sees. And you need to tell yourself that every day.
Begin learning to love your body, thanking it for doing its job. If you are losing weight to get healthy (and you know if you aren’t, even if you claim that you are), more power to you. But realize that you will not attain perfection. Ever.
And how boring would it be if you did anyway?
